The premise of this story had some good potential. Initially, MC starts having these dreams where he was in another world, and proceeded to get killed by ML.
MC, ML and their relationship
MC is a comic (manhua) author who wants a flatmate and then gets ML on board. Then he starts having these strange dreams where he keeps getting killed. He fairly quickly realises it’s ML. From thereon, he notices that ML has a bit of a hypocritical facade and is very cold to everyone despite being a bit of a social butterfly.
Their relationship…oh man…so ML killed MC so many times and MC was able to forgive him?? I guess for the sake of the story, we turn a blind eye to such a pushover personality, so okay if you accept it, time to quit if you aren’t. ML takes a while to realise it’s MC and after that their relationship quickly develops. Some of the scenes pre-relationship confirmation (ambiguous period) was very cringeworthy. Anyway, I guess you could say that they’re both really looking for someone who can accept the quirks of each other.
The mini-worlds, the system and the (real) villain
In terms of the mini-worlds, I really liked the school campus ghost story world, because MC finally wasn’t killed by ML! Jokes aside, I could really see how MC & ML’s relationships progressed through each mini-world and each mini-world had some decent plotlines. Unfortunately, even later mini-worlds weren’t guaranteed to end well due to the villain. And also, the last mini-world made zero sense to me.
The (real) villain had a flashy entrance. This villain was written in a rather irritating manner and this story is unfortunately not one of those “feel good”/refreshing texts (shuangwen). So unfortunately, this meant that the villain gets the last laugh in a mini-world or two and the the reader may not even feel particularly good when the villain is finally taken out. Frustrating.
I liked the system quite a bit. Excellent support.
Conclusion
Overall, the writing of this story felt pretty good to me, the pacing was reasonable and parts of the story was fun. On the downside, there were a few plot holes and some of the mini-worlds ended pretty disappointingly. This is not a story I regret reading and I did find it pretty enjoyable, but I just feel like there were many places where it fell short of being better.
