This is an infrastructure novel where basically the MC goes back into a non-existent historical world to help a disabled prince. So…exactly up my alley? It’s relatively short for an infrastructure novel and there were a lot of time skips that felt a bit jarring at some times, but fairly interesting overall.
I think the author has reworked it a bit since I read this, so I dunno how much this holds up.
MC, ML and their relationship
MC is a researcher who had their research stolen by superiors/nepoism in society and blows up his workplace. Yeah…he definitely has some super distorted values and highly indifferent at the start. He transmigrates, gets abandoned by his family (they don’t get much screen time) and joins our ML’s residence as a manual labourer. For various reasons, he ends up showing his abilities slowly, making a difference to the world and actually believing his changes are worthwhile…which they obviously are.
ML is a prince who used to fight in the army, got poisoned due to power struggles and therefore became confined to a wheelchair (yes, the classic setup). The interesting thing is…MC actually has a massive foot fetish, so ML’s disabled (and undisabled legs) entice MC like crazy. MC acts quite shameless when it comes to his fetish (heh) and surprisingly ML doesn’t really shoo him away or anything even from the start. ML is also quite loathing of himself at certain parts, which I felt were a bit glossed over.
As their relationship grows, MC gradually brings out his abilities, brings hope to ML and all that yada yada. MC kinda always has his foot fetish though, actually makes ML wear stockings too.
The infrastructure part
As an infrastructure novel lover, this one was done all right? The classics were brought out - glass, cement, potatoes/sweet potatoes and many others. This is also one of the ones where you get to see a couple of other characters in passing mention to show how “MC changed their lives”. There were a lot of time skips though, so sometimes the development felt super fast without the satisfaction. It’s still much better than a lot of other infrastructure stuff though.
Conclusion
I have mixed feelings about this story. It’s not a super deep one and the ending of the couple as depicted in the side story is quite tragic/abrupt. The majority of the story is good but not great.
