Ahhh so cute! The relationship between the two main characters was so cute. MC is very positive and sunny, while his love interest is quite the puppy too. I have to love how MC and ML meet too!

This has infrastructure as a tag, and it’s sort of there (sort of, I repeat). It’s kind of hard to place exactly what it is, but it’s very much about the rise of a grand military! They don’t really go into actual building stuff/farming, and much of it is just stuff directly lifted by the system (indescribably perverted looking sweet potatoes anyone?). No gunpower fights, MC is a blacksmith from a traditional blacksmithing village who only forges modern day kitchen knives. MC definitely has a very strong career line entwined with ML’s one. Perfect match. :D

ML, MC and their relationship

There was actually a fairly surprising amount of character development. At the start, MC is definitely someone who only identifies himself as a modern blacksmith who doesn’t really want to “do the task” as requested by the system. ML himself was kind of like floating duckweed, like he didn’t really know what he wanted to do with his life.

ML is likened a lot to an dog and MC is very much likened to a cat. Like, in the actual story, MC’s sleeping setup would be directly called a cat bed and ML being slapped was called fresh paw prints. The author’s spoofs were perfect for capturing this at the end of each chapter. Anyway, I found this super cute, and pretty funny at the same time.

ML is overall pretty afraid to lose MC, because their first meeting, MC’s appearance, his comas after each injury, abilities and various coincidences from the system definitely makes MC quite mystical. ML is pretty seriously anxious that he would “blasphemy” MC and thus lose him. Definitely feels bad for ML at various moments. I also think it was really obvious that ML pretty much fell in love with MC at first sight, though obviously nobody except readers can see that. I’d say MC definitely also kind of liked ML, after all, he did craft a sword for him fairly early into the story (and this sword had a lot of plot relevance!).

The most amazing thing about their relationship though, is at the very end, how MC and ML become co-emperors. I was seriously impressed with that, it’s far more common to end with an emperor/male empress (either direction) ending or a emperor/general or emperor/reagent ending. The former emperor (and author) who abdicated was a true stroke of genius and very satisfactorily concluded the story!

Side characters

Many side characters were very loveable, and there were a ton of super quirky characters. Like ML’s good brothers whose names make up “fruit” and “tree” pretty much, ML’s farming god father, a random fishmonger who the MC met ended up running a disguise spy-assassin team, a sickly artist from a military family who ended up being an expert composite sketcher, a workholic scholar who looked liked MC’s father etc. It’s also super funny because ML is described as a bit of a crybaby, and so all his military generals are also a bit of a crybaby.

MC is definitely the most popular amongst every side character. There was one chapter where MC was being a bit petty with ML and decided to sit far apart from him, and everyone of the side characters decided to crowd around him, leaving ML nice and isolated on the other end.

The systems

The systems definitely provided quite a bit of entertainment, like the very indescribable sweet potato I mentioned earlier. Some of the rewards were so funny, like this “carefully selected heart-shaped rock” was selected as a reward to inscribe a love story to pass through the ages. In the end, it ended up being broken down to be used as a whetstone.

Conclusion

I personally found myself laughing at quite a bit of the story. Some from the actual comedic moments and some because it was just so cute! Excellent story overall.
