This is a story with a very strong career line for both MC and ML, and of course, they’re smitten with each other! MC is a magician and ML is a slopestyle athlete. The story is roughly set in 2020-2022 (ending with the Beijing Winter Olymics 2022 - so some bits will obviously feel a bit more patriotic), though obviously fictional.
MC, ML and their relationship
MC is basically reborn five years after his death, and finds out that his original body was taken over. This was later revealed to be a person who read a book about MC’s original body, his current body and another scumbag (insert another skippable long story). MC’s new life is on a countdown as told by a system that now got binded to him and is forced to perform magic tricks. His first magic tricks are way more simple compared to his later ones. However, he eventually falls in love with magic, and his tricks gradually become truly grandiose! While not super realistic, they are groundable in reality enough that your suspension of disbelief will generally kick in.
ML himself is a slopestyle athelete who performed well from his early years, but suffered an injury and was rather nonchalant (depressed). Yep, nothing new - and he’s obviously encouraged to give it another shot thanks to our lovely MC. He surprisingly realises that he likes MC later than MC even though he starts teasing MC a pretty early. Anyway, he’s quite a big fan of MC, only missing like one of his major events due to a competition on the same day (it’s supposedly quite romantic that they’re both fighting it at the same time, just not in the same location). Oh, and ML is terrified of ghosts/horror stories, and MC likes to tease him about it quite a bit haha.
Their relationship is basically one of encouragement, inspiration and camaraderie. And of course…they do roll in the blankets, a few mentions here and there haha.
MC’s bodies, the transmigrant and the original novel
When MC first kind of woke up, he’s definitely pretty disorientated and a bit adamant how the transmigrant ruined his past body. MC tries to find out info from this transmigrant and originally really wanted revenge (of a sort). Surprisingly, this wasn’t really one of those stories. After the initial part, the transmigrant and the original novel just became less important. MC lets go of his past life and embraces his new life. The transmigrant does get his comeuppance though, and MC’s original achievements we be returned to his original body, so it’s still a good ending there.
MC’s new body was originally attempting to debut from a talent show, but was basically eliminated by the time MC was reborn in it. MC then almost immediately starts his life as a magician, so there’s not much content related to traditional “entertainment industry” in this story. He only really stars of variety shows/cameo role in a movie as a passing mention. This new life is truly focused on magic (and ML!).
Side characters
Let’s talk about the bad characters first…the cannon fodders and the villains. There weren’t any real cannon fodder or villains in this one, most eventually became friends of MC or just faded because they weren’t important enough to affect MC’s life. Like there was an award where MC was the obvious winner, but was suppressed because he was too promising. That person never really got his comeuppance because MC just went way beyond that level in a very short period of time. I have mixed feelings on this, but overall it helps keep the focus on the MC’s growth trajectory and momentum.
MC lets his non-blood related sister know about his past/new life. Coincidentally, his sister married ML’s uncle and there were some pretty funny moments involved there. There were some pretty important side characters in this story as well, like the boss of his current agency, some fellow magicians, ML’s team members etc. Undoubtely though, almost everyone is a fan of MC.
Conclusion
Excellent work overall. I especially loved how there wasn’t any real “cannon fodder” in this one, and how MC accepts that his past life and embraces his new one. His new one is undoubtedly full of magic and love! Definitely a recommend, it’s a really positive and uplifting story.
